Prior to Lucid Software, Karl spent several years at Google in a variety of roles, including starting Google's China office and leading business development for China, opening the company's patent department and setting patent strategy, and leading Google's investments in advanced wind and battery technologies. Karl holds a B.S. and M.S. in EECS from MIT, an M.S. from MIT in Technology and Policy, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Ben has successfully designed and implemented a variety of major software projects, especially web-based database solutions. He was the Chief Technology Officer for Zane Benefits, where he led the development of a leading online health benefits administration platform, which was later featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Ben holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Brigham Young University. He enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, and other outdoor activities—but not heights.
Brian has extensive experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying web applications. He has led development teams at many companies, including HP, Sun Microsystems, and FamilySearch.org. Brian holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Brigham Young University. He enjoys leading the Lucidchart team on strenuous outdoor adventures and seeing who can keep up.
Dave came on board shortly after the launch of Lucidchart and has worn nearly every hat on the business and product teams. Prior to joining Lucid, Dave worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company. He graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Business Management. Dave is a political junkie and tries to keep up with the outdoorsy stunts of the rest of the team (with only an occasional trip to the emergency room).
Ryan joined Lucid with extensive experience in marketing, corporate strategy, and operations. He led the development and execution of growth strategy in various industries, for employers like Celanese International, Bain & Company, and Becton Dickinson. Ryan holds a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Matthew Barlocker is the Chief Architect at Lucid Software. Since receiving a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from BYU in 2008, he has worked tirelessly to create highly available, scalable applications in the consulting, Internet security, social gaming, and financial industries. Away from work, Matthew enjoys flying airplanes, playing strategy games, four-wheeling with his wife, and wrestling his two sons.
Brett has an MBA with an emphasis in international business from Duke University. Before joining Lucid Software, he spent several years driving customer support initiatives at a variety of companies, including American Express. When he's not improving Lucid's customer experience, Brett enjoys cycling, traveling, and SCUBA diving.
Rob is a veteran of several successful start-ups where he led product development efforts in everything from electronic textbooks to cough syrup. A graduate of BYU’s Master of Information Systems program, Rob loves to get into the database and discover insights. Rob and his two boys enjoy playing Lego “stories” involving museum heists and ocean rescues.
Paul Draper graduated in Computer Science from BYU. He spends most of his time at Lucid in front-end development for Lucidchart. Paul likes sunny days, the Florida Gators, pot roast, the color red, tail recursion, and his wife and son. When not working, he thinks about cool projects he doesn't have time for.
Mitch graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Economics and worked for the University Venture Fund before joining Lucid. He manages the day-to-day product development of Lucidchart. Mitch loves mountain biking, climbing, snowboarding, and photography. His images include the presidential inauguration, University of Utah football, and landscapes of the Rocky Mountains.
Mahesh has a Computer Science degree from IIT Delhi. He works on the DevOps team and manages the reporting infrastructure. Mahesh loves to learn, hack, come up with solutions, and make things happen. He also reads manga, so if you know what they are, prepare yourself for some hollow and ninja attacks.
Monika graduated from Skidmore College summa cum laude with a degree in English and Spanish. She arrived at Lucid after meeting the CEO, Karl Sun, on a chairlift while skiing. Monika now handles customer support for Lucid's growing user base and enjoys cycling, hiking, and skiing in her spare time.
Brad was introduced to the world of online marketing during the second summer of his PhD program and has never looked back. He has a great affection for technology and spends his time at Lucid leading the education outreach program and consulting on SEO. Brad abhors exercise and would rather relax with his adoring wife and children.
Andy has a degree in Computer Science from BYU and joined the Lucid team immediately after graduation. Andy is a developer who leads Lucid's partnership with La Presse, the most widely distributed French-Canadian newspaper. He enjoys spending time with his family, ATVing, and rock climbing. Andy's also a fan of open source and Scala.
Derrick studied distributed computing at BYU and Stanford. Before joining Lucid Software, he worked at Amazon, Microsoft, and Domo. Derrick leads the Lucidchart team and loves working on REST services, security, and recruiting. For fun he cycles, backpacks, and takes his son to the hardware store in his F150.
Charly graduated from BYU with a degree in French Literature. She does copywriting for Lucid. She has been a technical writer, K-12 math tutor, and collegiate print and digital journalist. Charly is currently enjoying writing short stories and essays and snowboarding in Utah.
Matthew graduated from BYU with a degree in Computer Science and has been with Lucid Software for over three years. He's an expert on Lucidchart's Visio import feature and works primarily on third-party integrations and import capabilities. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys hiking, reading, and gurning.
Katie Leach graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in Accountancy. Before joining Lucidchart, she worked with an Internet security company for 3 years as their Accounts Receivable Manager and consulted Lucidchart on its bookkeeping. Katie enjoys playing tennis with her husband and reading fun books to her kids.
Marco joined Lucid with 6 years of experience in technology startups, including four years as Latin American Sales Director at Qualtrics.com. He graduated in 2008 with his BA in Latin American Studies from BYU and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Marco enjoys singing, wildlife, and spending time with his family.
Quinn graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation Biology. He joined Lucid after founding a student-run nonprofit during his time at school. Quinn is the Product Manager of Lucidpress and oversees its daily operations. He is passionate about social entrepreneurship, innovation, lifelong learning, and nature.
Craig graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a degree in Maritime Transportation. He founded and leads the Quality Assurance team at Lucid. When not breaking software and menacing programmers, Craig can be found running, playing role-playing games, skateboarding, snowboarding, drinking hot chai, writing fiction, and acting—likely in that order.
Stephen is a junior in the Computer Science major at Brigham Young University and began his days at Lucidchart as an intern in the summer of 2013. When he's not programming for work or school, he enjoys listening to music, drawing, reading fantasy novels, gaming, and being with his wife.
David graduated from BYU with a degree in Advertising and arrived at Lucid after working at Y&R in New York City where he worked on the Colgate and Ford brands. David manages product marketing for Lucidpress and films the company videos. A sports fanatic from Sacramento, David loves his Sacramento Kings, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A's, and his wife.
Alyssa will graduate from BYU in 2014 with a degree in Computer Science. She works as a software developer on the Lucidpress team. In her free time, Alyssa loves playing the carillon and piano, going to BYU football games, and working on coding projects with her husband.
Jane has a degree in Applied Physics from BYU and began working at Lucid right after graduation. She is a data and analytics guru and works with the marketing team to streamline operations. In her spare time, Jane loves cooking, baking, crafting, and creating art.
Kesler graduated with a degree in Computer Science and currently works for Lucid as a front-end engineer. He enjoys experimenting with mobile development for both native and HTML5 implementation. When not on a computer, Kesler enjoys spending time with his wife and eating delicious food.
David Torgerson started his IT career early when he received the CNE (Certified Novell Engineer) certification at age 12. He has held many IT admin roles, including system, network and infrastructure, security, and platform. David enjoys foosball, spending time with his wife and 4 kids, and playing games (both the video and board varieties).
Parker is working part-time at Lucidchart while he finishes his degree in Computer Science at the University of Utah. As an expert in mobile app development, he leads Lucid's iOS efforts. Parker loves spending time with family and is not as surly as his photo suggests.
Rob has a degree in Advertising from BYU and joined Lucid as a graphic designer after working at McCann Erickson in NYC. Rob is an adventure junkie who considers the outdoors his second home. He loves backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, snowboarding and running, as well as photographing his outdoor journeys.
Eliza is a graduate of BYU's Advertising program. She spends her time creating and editing content for Lucidchart and Lucidpress. Outside of work, Eliza enjoys knitting, running, volunteering with CASA for Children, spending time with her husband, and playing roller derby under the moniker Demoraliza.
Jeff recently received a CS degree with an emphasis in database engineering from Utah Valley University. He's been working as a software engineer for 3 years and spent the last year at Lucid. Jeff enjoys sports, spending time with family, and showing off his mad foosball skills.
